Home renovation spending heats up again after COVID-19 pandemic led to deep freeze

After rising to a record high last year in Canada, spending on home renovations fell off a cliff in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But the months of lockdowns and the seemingly endless purgatory of working from home have Canadians once again opening up their wallets to make their temporary workplaces as tolerable as possible.

BC homeowners say they’ve lost thousands of dollars after local contractor leaves renovation projects unfinished – BC

A BC homeowner said she estimates she’s out $85,000 after the home renovation company she hired suddenly stopped responding, leaving her with an unfinished project.

“It makes you feel sick and you don’t have trust,” Jennifer Carson told Consumer Matters.

Last May, the Maple Ridge resident hired Knotty Boys Construction owned by Sam Orchard to do a major home renovation.
