Minneapolis American Indian Center ushers in new era after massive renovation

MINNEAPOLIS — Soulful pride bellowed along Franklin Avenue where a beacon for the indigenous community was reborn. A parade ushered in a new era at the Minneapolis American Indian Center.

It hosted a reopening celebration to commemorate the massive renovation project over the past few years. Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan got a preview of the facility last week and was thrilled to welcome visitors Wednesday.

It has been a busy summer break for the talented Three Birds Renovations team of Lana Taylor, Bonnie Hindmarsh and Erin Cayless.

Their top priority was to finish – and film – the luxury Glenhaven home renovation of Erin and her husband Nathan Cayless, the Parramatta Eels NSW Cup coach.

The Cayless family bought the five-bedroom, four-bathroom Binet home on 2200sq m in late 2020 for $2,715,000.

Victoria High School reopens after 4-year renovation, seismic upgrades

On Friday, for the first time in almost four years, students once again filled the halls of Victoria High School.

“It’s our orientation day so we’re mostly just touring the school,” said Briar Gotro, a Grade 12 student at Victoria High School.

The renovation added capacity for 200 more students up from 800. It was budgeted for $80 million and students were supposed to return in February.

The school has been seismically upgraded and comes with a new neighborhood learning center and a turf playing field.

St. Paul’s Senior Services cuts ribbon on apartment building after $20 million renovation

St. Paul’s Senior Services held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday to mark the official reopening of the Manor on Bankers Hill, a senior living building that recently underwent a $20 million renovation.

The Manor, which opened in 1960 and has 135 apartments, is largely home to senior residents who are middle income. Sometimes referred to as the “hidden middle,” those in the demographic often can neither afford expensive retirement homes nor qualify for government subsidies to help cover housing costs.

With the rising cost of living in San Diego County, many middle-income seniors struggle to find safe housing they can afford.

Fire at club under renovation in Istanbul kills at least 29

ISTANBUL — A fire engulfed a popular Istanbul nightclub Tuesday during renovations, trapping workers and employees inside and killing at least 29 people, officials and reports said. Several people, including managers of the club, were detained for questioning.

One person was being treated at a hospital with serious injuries, the Istanbul governor’s office said in a statement.

The Masquerade nightclub, which was closed for renovations, was located on the ground and basement floors of a 16-story residential building in the Besiktas district on the European side of the city bisected by the Bosphorus Strait.

Broadway Central Market to undergo renovation

SAN ANTONIO – Broadway’s Central Market is set to undergo a significant renovation, expected to modernize and refresh the store.

The company expects to complete the work in two phases. The plans include a façade refresh, parking lot improvements and a complete interior remodel.

The grocer has operated under the Central Market moniker since 1999; before the store was first opened as an HEB in 1951.
